Mestalla to pay tribute to those affected by the flash floods on its first anniversary

Valencia CF will remember all the people and municipalities affected ahead of the match against Villarreal CF

Valencia CF will pay tribute this Saturday, October 25, before the match against Villarreal CF at Mestalla (21:00), to all the people and towns affected by the DANA flash floods that hit the Valencian Community almost a year ago. The stadium will become a space of remembrance and recognition for those who suffered its consequences and for everyone who took part in the recovery efforts.

A string sextet will accompany the tribute by performing live chords of the Hymn of Comunitat Valenciana. Live music and a videoboard projection will give voice to the feeling and unity of the Valencian people.

Valencia CF players will wear their third kit, which pays tribute to the Senyera, a symbol representing the pride, identity, and unity of the Valencian fanbase. In addition, both teams will enter the pitch accompanied by 22 boys and girls wearing the same kit, from the affiliated schools Racing Algemesí, Atlético Sedaví, UD Aldaia, and FBCD Catarroja, four municipalities where Valencia CF and the Fundació Valencia CF have actively collaborated in the recovery of sports facilities destroyed by the flash floods.

The Valencia CF captain will wear a special armband, the design of which will be chosen by fans holding $VCF Fan Tokens from three possible options. Voting is ongoing-don’t wait any longer and vote for your favorite armband! To access the survey, CLICK HERE.

As part of the DNA Mestalla Solidari initiative, Valencia CF will also host the Emergency Intervention Battalion III (UME BIEM III), part of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) based at the ‘Jaume I’ Barracks in Bétera (Valencia). This battalion operates in the Valencian Community, Murcia, and the Balearic Islands. They played a crucial role during the flash floods, deploying over 8,500 soldiers in one of the UME’s largest operations in Spain, marked by effort, coordination, and solidarity with those affected.

Just before the start of the match, Mestalla will observe a minute of silence in memory of the people and municipalities affected by the flash floods, in a gesture of respect and shared solidarity among all Valencia CF fans, while flags fly at half-mast in memory of all those who died in this disaster.

With this tribute, Valencia CF, together with Villarreal CF, reaffirms its commitment to the Comunitat Valenciana and its people, emphasizing that solidarity, unity, and collective effort are values that form part of the Valencian identity.
